Eight Is Enough
Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 03:30PM Two months ago this week, a couple I met through CouchSurfing came down from Oklahoma to crash with us for the weekend. One had "one weekend a month" duties at a nearby military base and didn't want the other spending two days bored and lonely in a local hotel. On that very first trip, I slipped something into their food wound up making such good friends with them, we immediately made plans for their next visit... and shortly thereafter, I started suggesting they move down.
Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought it was a great idea. As fortuitous happenstance [wink wink, nudge nudge] would have it, each of them received several lucrative job offers in Dallas. As of yesterday afternoon, both of them are now gainfully employed on MY side of the Red River. So over the course of the next couple weekends, they and their precocious six-year-old will be packing up everything pertinent and moving in with us for a month or two (or four) (or six).
Updated population of the Abbey: four brave men, two magnificent women, two gorgeous children and one thoroughly bewildered cat.
I've been busy revamping the chore rotation list and creating schedules for meals, laundry and showers... none of which are as difficult as they may sound. Having this many people in the house will require more organization on each person's part, but I suspect we could all benefit from the additional structure. I know we can all benefit from the lowered cost of living expenses! I've said it before but it will always bear repeating: expenses, like good meals and fine ales, are always better shared.
There's a lot more to this story, but I haven't the time to tell it -- there are still closets to empty, boxes to move and sanity to kiss goodbye rooms to rearrange...
To be continued.
